Description
This bench is hand crafted from American White Oak and is in a different design to our standard bench shape, with the structural integrity coming from the X shape of the frame.
American white oak is a lovely timber that has an arresting grain and comes to life as it ages. This American White Oak does not come from America – the name means the tree is indigenous to America. In fact the white oak for this bench in the pictures comes from a housing estate in St. Albans via our local sawmill. Many would say the world would be a lot better off if the houses had not been built and the trees had sill been trees. I am inclined to agree with them but the houses were already being built, the trees had already been cut down, and they had been cut into boards at my local sawmill. So as a second option it is not so bad.
As wash and reseal once a year will keep this bench in absolute tippity-toppity order for many years to come.
