We have created various items of garden furniture over the decades for Kings, sailors, paupers and even a clown. The one thing these people have in common is a love of great design and a need to own a original item of genuine class.
This Tudor bench was hand crafted for the great (x11) grandson of Perkin Warbeck pretender to the English throne. Even now in this new age of (post) knowledge Mr Warbeck still claimed his relation was indeed Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York.
As a Plantagenet why then are you buying a Tudor Bench? I asked him. He did not answer. However, that is all an aside.
This delicious bench is one of the items we make from genuinely recycled materials. The back legs and rear cross beam on this bench are made from timber removed from an old Essex barn on our farm. The barn was taken down in 1957 and was erected sometime in the middle ages according to a local historian so the age when this wood was just a wee acorn in their mummy’s eye is anyone’s guess. The rest of the bench is sustainably sourced oak from our local saw mill.
When recycling old timber in this manner it is important to work with the wood to preserve the quality, grain and any special features so to this end each bench will be slightly different to the one in the pictures but it is a fair representation.
A light pressure washing and staining once a year will ensure this bench lasts for many years.
